Prevent Pregnancy With Combination Pills

Most women today prefer using contraceptive pills as a means of contraception, which gives them the freedom to control their sex life as well. Some of these oral contraceptive pills are combination pills, commonly referred to as ‘the pill’, which contain two artificial female hormones. Marvelon is one of those popular combination pills, which has been proven to be almost 100% effective in preventing pregnancy. It consists of ethinylestradiol (artificial oestrogen) and desogestrel (artificial progestogen) as its active ingredient.

Marvelon works best if you start taking it on thy very first day of your periods, and continue taking it on a daily basis at the same time. This pill, being a combination pill, gives you protection against pregnancy in three ways. It firstly prevents ovulation occurs by tricking your body into believing that ovulation has already occurred. It thickens the cervical mucus in order to prevent a sperm from entering your womb. And lastly it alters the womb lining so as to prevent an egg from attaching and growing further.

You need to take this pill for 21 days of your menstrual cycle, with a 7 day break in between. You are likely to have your periods during this 7 day break. Some of the side effects of this contraceptive pill include headaches, bloating, nausea, vomiting, changes in your weight, decreased sex drive and a change in your menstrual patterns. Some of the other contraceptive pills that have also been proven to be quite effective are Cilest and Mercilon.
